Over a decade, Dutch pediatric neurosurgeons have been working together in the pedi- atric neurosurgical section of the NVvN (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Neurochirurgie). The section has provided a forum to exchange ideas, to discuss complex cases, and to (re)organize pediatric neurosurgical care in The Netherlands acting as a group (rather than individuals from a specific center) in discussions with o cials from the NVvN, other medical disciplines, healthcare managers, and the government. Recently, the sec- tion has launched the KNNN (Kinder Neurochirurgisch Netwerk Nederland) as a digital platform for pediatric neurosurgeons, their patients, parents, and related organizations. It is hoped this platform will improve overall access to pediatric neurosurgical care, and support an even closer collaboration between individual centers.

Hydrocephalus is an important part of our daily work. In recent years, a lot of progress has been made, including improved imaging techniques, the development of smaller, more reliable shunts, as well as dedicated pediatric ventriculoscopes. While the physio- logy of cerebrospinal fluid production and circulation in normal and pathological condi- tions has not been fully elucidated, these tools do provide us with great opportunities to optimize our care for these children. Hydrocephalus in the human fetus and newborn may be the most complex of all. The brain is developing at a tremendous rate and any disturbance may have very serious consequences. The immature brain may respond un- predictably to neurosurgical intervention, and any complication may be a catastrophe.

The KNNN proudly presents an exciting meeting about fetal hydrocephalus: early de- tection using state-of-the-art imaging techniques, genetic, obstetric, and neurological aspects and subsequent multidisciplinary counseling, surgery for hydrocephalus in the first few months of life, and finally, what about prenatal interventions for developmen- tal anomalies of the central nervous system? An (inter)national respected faculty will cover all relevant aspects, followed by a round table discussion and interaction with the floor. We hope to see you in Maastricht!
